  • Camera: Vesta Pro modified CCD webcam, resolution 0.26 arcsec/pixel

Earth-based image of surface detail on Mercury. Parts of the imaged surface haven't been mapped by spacecrafts like Mariner 10. Explanation of the photographed surface.

  • Telescope: Celestron C9.25 235 mm SC at f/29 on a Vixen GP-DX mount
  • Camera: Vesta Pro modified CCD webcam, resolution 0.17 arcsec/pixel

The same part of the surface was also imaged one year later. Now with the C9.25 telescope.

The same photograph as above, but now in greyscale.

The photographs that were made resulted in an animation of the rotation of Mercury and another confirmation of the imaging of the Kuiper-Murasaki ray system. Static version of the animtion.

  • Location: Brisbane, Australia
  • Telescope: Celestron C8 203 mm SC at f/31
  • Camera: Vesta Pro modified CCD webcam, resolution 0.18 arcsec/pixel

Some markings on the C8 image can be associated with some geological landforms like Olympus Mons, parts of Valles Marineris, the craters Newton and Copernicus. Comparison with a photograph made by Hubble telescope.
